Kathmandu, Prime Minister Sushila Karki has announced that she will not receive or offer Tika during this year's Vijaya Dashami (Dashain) festival.

She made this decision in remembrance of the many young individuals who lost their lives during the Gen-Z movement that took place in the month of Bhadra. According to her statement, she will neither wear Tika herself nor offer it to others this year.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat reads:

“Although Dashain is a joyous festival traditionally celebrated each year, the grief over the loss of many youths during the recent youth-led movement remains fresh in our hearts. Therefore, this year, the Honorable Prime Minister will refrain from wearing Dashain Tika and Jamara, and there will be no official Tika-offering program for the public.”

The statement further emphasizes that the current government was formed on the foundation of the historic youth movement. It states that the government is fully committed to holding the upcoming House of Representatives elections on the scheduled date and to establishing good governance across the nation.

On the occasion of Dashain, Prime Minister Karki has also extended best wishes for national peace, stability, good governance, and prosperity. She urged all citizens to dedicate themselves to the development of the nation with renewed commitment and unity.

She reiterated the government's commitment to transparency, reform, and timely elections, while calling on the public to actively participate in building a better future.

At present, Nepal is governed by an interim government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. She was appointed following the fall of the former Oli-led administration, which was ousted in the wake of the Gen-Z movement on Bhadra 23 and 24.

The official statement also includes the following message:

“On the auspicious occasion of Dashain 2082, I extend heartfelt greetings to all Nepali brothers and sisters at home and abroad, and to all Nepali-speaking communities across the world. May this festival bring peace, prosperity, harmony, and continuous progress. Let us strengthen familial bonds, social unity, and mutual goodwill. With the blessings of Goddess Durga, may we continue moving forward on the path of stability, good governance, and national development.”
