Kathmandu . President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasized the need to transfer the knowledge, experience, and skills of senior citizens to the younger generation. Addressing the two-day ‘International Senior Citizens Conference’ organized by the Manmohan Memorial Foundation, he recalled the contributions of former Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari and described his life and ideas as a source of inspiration.

President Paudel said Manmohan Adhikari was known for his simplicity and humility and was recognized as South Asia’s first elected communist prime minister. He also noted that along with BP Koirala, Adhikari and several other leaders contributed not only to Nepal’s democratic movement but also to India’s independence struggle.

Speaking at the event, Chiribabu Maharjan said Lalitpur Metropolitan City has been actively working in various areas related to senior citizens. He recalled organizing special programs such as processions, chariot rides, and carriage parades during the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of centenarian scholar Satya Mohan Joshi. He also shared that commemorative coins were issued in Joshi’s name in coordination with Nepal Rastra Bank.

Similarly, Manmohan Memorial Foundation Chairperson and UML leader Ishwor Pokharel said the foundation was established in 2056 BS to preserve the ideology, contributions, and political legacy of Manmohan Adhikari. He described Adhikari as a towering figure of Nepal’s left democratic movement and credited him for introducing social security programs and people-centered development initiatives.
