Kathmandu, It has come to light that Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Mahabir Pun, traveled to Pokhara without any personal security detail. Known for living a simple lifestyle, Pun had previously stated he does not require security, even after becoming a minister.

According to reports, Pun left the Ministry on Monday morning and took a flight to Pokhara. After landing at the Pokhara Airport, he took a regular taxi to his home, like an ordinary citizen. Ministry staff revealed that no one in Pokhara had prior knowledge of his arrival, and he made the journey without any personal security officers (PSO).

Pun has been residing in the Ministry premises at Keshar Mahal since taking office. He traveled to Nadipur, Pokhara — his hometown. His approach continues to reflect the same simplicity that has defined his life even before his ministerial appointment. Pun, once known for selling books to raise funds, was appointed minister with strong support from the 'Gen-Z' movement, which had led to the fall of the former Oli government and the formation of a new administration led by Sushila Karki.

According to Ministry spokesperson Shiv Kumar Sapkota, arrangements have been made for Pun to live and dine inside the Ministry building itself, adjacent to his office chamber. After the Ministry of Education was temporarily relocated to Keshar Mahal due to the fire incident during the Bhadra 24 protest at Singha Durbar, the office has been functioning from the ground floor of the building next to Keshar Library.

On Monday, after being sworn in, Minister Pun officially assumed office and requested Secretary Chudamani Paudel to make arrangements for his food and accommodation within the ministry itself. He has announced that he will work around the clock from the ministry premises.

Pun has also proposed that his assigned security personnel live within the ministry premises, and has stated that he will only use a government vehicle for official ministry work. He instructed his security detail not to follow him outside the ministry just to report his whereabouts.

“I don’t need you following me when I leave the ministry premises to report back,” Pun reportedly told his security team. Spokesperson Sapkota confirmed that arrangements have also been made for the security personnel to stay within the ministry premises.
