Kathmandu, Former Prime Minister and outgoing Chairman of Naya Shakti Party (Nespa), Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, has clarified that while he has resigned from the party’s leadership position, he is not stepping away from politics. Speaking at a press conference today, Bhattarai said the decision was made to encourage the rise of a new generation in leadership roles.

“I have not distanced myself from any movement,” Bhattarai said. “I was part of the campaign to build an alternative for the country yesterday, I am here today, and I will remain committed in the future as well.”

He strongly supported the Gen-Z youth uprising, calling it a legitimate and organic movement rooted in Nepal's realities. However, he warned that certain reactionary forces and foreign powers were attempting to interfere with the movement’s goals.

Bhattarai emphasized the need for immediate action against corrupt politicians before the next elections. Without accountability, he warned, the same corrupt figures would get re-elected, defeating the purpose of any reform.

He further argued that while governments may have changed, the fundamental power structure has not. According to Bhattarai, systemic reform is only possible through a directly elected executive system, which, he believes, is key to ensuring political stability. Failing to do so, he cautioned, would render the sacrifices of Gen-Z youth meaningless.
