Kathmandu, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that he is not driven by a desire to cling to power, contrary to what is being portrayed outside. Addressing the Central Committee meeting that began on Thursday at Pragya Bhawan, Prachanda presented his political report and expressed that the current political scenario is extremely complex and critical.

He remarked, “What we are seeing today is difficult to even describe in words. In this situation, it seems necessary to move towards a Special General Convention to strengthen the movement.”

Referring to the ongoing discussions on leadership transition within the party, Prachanda stated that he does not feel the need to remain in power indefinitely. “I believe leadership should be transferred through a process. I’m not someone who forcibly clings to position,” he clarified.

According to party insiders, even top leaders have begun raising questions about leadership transition in light of the recent "Gen-Z movement". Prachanda has echoed similar sentiments in his Constitution Day message as well, emphasizing the need to reach conclusions through due process.

In a significant move, Prachanda has proposed the dissolution of the current Central Committee, including all office bearers, during the meeting. This proposal aims to pave the way for the party to head towards a Special General Convention. The idea, reportedly already endorsed by the Office Bearers' and Standing Committee meetings, was formally presented in the ongoing Central Committee session. If approved, the entire current committee structure will be dissolved.
