American Inmates Captured in Kathmandu

Monday, September 22 2025

Kathmandu, Two American nationals who escaped from Nepali prisons during the recent Gen-Z protest movement have been apprehended by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police.

According to the CIB, Michael Norman Taylor, who was serving a sentence at Kaski District Prison for child sexual abuse, and Jason Lode Moody, who was serving time at Jagannath Dewal Prison in Kathmandu for rape, escaped on Bhadra 24 (September 9) amidst the unrest triggered by the Gen-Z movement.

The CIB launched a targeted manhunt following their escape and successfully captured both fugitives on Monday from the Maharajgunj area of Kathmandu, stated Deputy Superintendent of Police and CIB spokesperson Dharma Raj Bhattarai.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the details regarding how the duo managed to flee their respective prisons, but investigations are ongoing. The incident has raised serious concerns about prison security and the potential misuse of mass protests as cover for criminal activity.
