Kathmandu, In Prime Minister Sushila Karki's cabinet, there is growing speculation that Sudhan Gurung, Raksha Bam, and Bablu Gupta could be appointed as ministers representing the "Gen-Z" movement. According to sources, extensive discussions were held in Baluwatar on Friday regarding who among the movement’s leaders should be included in the council of ministers.

Although Sudhan Gurung, one of the leading figures of the Gen-Z protests, is believed to have ambitions to join the cabinet, he has reportedly not made his intentions public nor informed his group about it.

Friday’s discussion also focused on Raksha Bam and Bablu Gupta. If both accept the proposal, cabinet expansion could take place within the next couple of days. According to sources close to the Prime Minister, there are plans to appoint up to 11 ministers initially, with the option of expanding the council to 15 members if necessary.

Prime Minister Karki aims to finalize her cabinet by Monday. Although she has held consultations with individuals from various professional and business backgrounds, the lack of consensus with Gen-Z representatives has delayed the expansion process. Moreover, some of the candidates PM Karki initially wanted to appoint have reportedly declined the ministerial positions.

Sources say that agreement on most cabinet appointments is now close, and an expansion is likely either today or by Monday at the latest.

Following the downfall of the previous government triggered by the Gen-Z movement, Sushila Karki was appointed Prime Minister to lead the interim government. She has since been holding consultations with a wide range of stakeholders. During these discussions, she even sought input from journalists involved in judicial reporting.

Reportedly, PM Karki has offered Mahabir Pun the position of Minister for Education, Science, and Technology. On Bhadra 27 (September 12), she had already appointed a three-member cabinet after assuming office as Prime Minister.

PM Karki is also planning to form an expert advisory team under the leadership of senior journalist Ajayabhadra Khanal, who is the former editor of The Himalayan Times. The team will be based at the Prime Minister’s Office and include Govinda Narayan Timilsina, the Vice President of the Ujjwal Thapa Foundation.

Additionally, PM Karki is preparing to establish a high-level Judicial Inquiry Commission, which will be led by former Chief of the Special Court and retired judge Gauri Bahadur Karki.
