Stock Market Sees High Volatility on Sunday After Record Drop Last Week

Sunday, September 21 2025

Kathmandu, Nepal’s stock market experienced significant volatility on Sunday, just days after Thursday’s historic plunge triggered a negative circuit breaker, forcing an early market closure.

During today’s pre-opening session, the NEPSE index had dropped by 24 points. However, the market quickly reversed course, surging by 59 points within just 10 minutes to reach 2,571.06 points.

This brief rally, however, was short-lived. Within the next five minutes, the market again fell back to its opening level. As of 11:15 AM, the NEPSE index stood at 2,514.69 points, indicating instability in investor sentiment.

In response to Thursday’s sharp decline, Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal expressed concern and formed a task force to investigate irregularities in the market. He also directed NEPSE to revise its final price calculation method.

NEPSE has announced that the revised calculation method will come into effect starting Tuesday, and the newly formed task force has already begun its work. However, these measures have yet to show any significant impact on market performance.
