Thursday, September 18 2025

Kathmandu, Home and Law Minister Om Prakash Aryal has expressed his commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s directive that allows Nepali citizens living abroad to vote, at least under the proportional representation system. Speaking during a discussion held at the Election Commission on Thursday, Minister Aryal acknowledged the growing demand among the diaspora and emphasized that it is time to act on the court’s long-standing order.

He stated that even in countries where full voting arrangements may not be feasible, efforts should be made to facilitate voting through Nepali embassies using available technologies. Aryal further stressed that the government should seize this opportunity to use technology not just for voting, but also to engage the younger generation of Nepalis abroad in the political mainstream.

He assured that the government is ready to do its part and expressed hope that the Election Commission would coordinate and support this initiative, adding that Nepalis living abroad should not be excluded from the democratic process.
