Kathmandu, Today marks the first lunar eclipse of this year. On the full moon day of Bhadra Shukla (according to the lunar calendar), a total lunar eclipse will occur. According to the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Bikas Samiti (Calendar Determination Development Committee), this will be a total (completely covered) lunar eclipse. As per the official calendar approved by the committee, the eclipse will begin (contact) at 10:11 PM tonight.

The midpoint of the eclipse will be at 11:56 PM, and it will end at 1:41 AM. Former chairman of the committee, Prof. Shreekrishna Adhikari, informed that the eclipse will be visible from Kathmandu for about three and a half hours. This is the first eclipse of the Nepali year 2082. Another partial lunar eclipse is expected on the upcoming full moon of the month of Fagun.

According to traditional scriptures, eating is prohibited during the eclipse for everyone except children, the elderly, and the sick. Based on scriptural rules, from 1:11 PM today, food consumption is restricted for all others. Lunar eclipses occur on full moon days, while solar eclipses happen on new moon days. This eclipse will be fully visible from Nepal, India, and many other countries in Asia.
