Supreme Court Case Filed Against Maoist Leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Maximum Action Demanded

Monday, September 1 2025

Kathmandu,  A contempt of court case has been filed in the Supreme Court against CPN (Maoist Centre) senior vice-chairman and former Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha. He is accused of undermining the judiciary’s dignity and impartiality through remarks made on social media.

The case was registered by 19-year-old law student Ayush Dahal from Morang, who argued that Shrestha’s statement—that justice in Nepal is not possible without bribery, connection, or influence—eroded public trust in the courts. Dahal demanded Shrestha be summoned in person, ordered to remove the content, and face maximum punishment under the Judicial Administration Act.

The hearing is scheduled for October 5. Experts warn that growing public accusations against the judiciary risk weakening confidence in justice delivery.
