Kathmandu, Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has requested support from the German Ambassador to Nepal to introduce a trolley bus system connecting Pokhara, Butwal, and Bharatpur. The proposal was discussed during a courtesy meeting between Minister Ghising and German Ambassador to Nepal, Udo Eugen Wolz, held at the Ministry of Energy in Singha Durbar.

During the meeting, Ambassador Wolz congratulated Minister Ghising and extended best wishes for a successful tenure. The two discussed various important matters, including Nepal-Germany economic cooperation, ongoing German-supported solar and transmission projects such as the Lekhnath–Damauli 220 kV transmission line, and potential areas for further assistance in Nepal’s energy transformation.

Minister Ghising acknowledged Germany's long-standing support in Nepal's energy sector, highlighting German-assisted hydropower projects like Middle Marsyangdi and Marsyangdi as critical lifelines. He emphasized the importance of the Pokhara–Butwal–Bharatpur Green Triangle Project, which is expected to be developed by 2029 with joint assistance from Germany and the European Union, to enhance electricity usage in transport and households.

As roads connecting the three cities are being expanded, Minister Ghising requested German support in:

• Operating trolley buses along this corridor

  

• Establishing electric vehicle charging stations

• Expanding and improving power transmission and distribution systems to manage the expected increase in electricity demand

• Conducting necessary feasibility studies to implement these plans

He also urged Germany to provide international technical experts for the assessment and reconstruction of public infrastructure damaged during the recent "Jen-Ji" movement, citing a lack of domestic experts.

In response, Ambassador Wolz informed that a German delegation will visit Nepal this December to identify key areas of support and review future assistance plans for the next two years.
